Here one, where you can see 14´s (Link) but even he use the 14´s as winter wheels. So a size with wide tires are used very often on E21 cars. I looked in our story´s, but again here wide 14´s are seldom. Sport size on a E21 was 15inch. One other thing, with 225/40/14 your dials (speed) are sure not correct then.
