Would you let run this car here in germany ?

No chance, you can not put a older engine in a car, only younger is legal. Emissons level is here the rule for engine swap.

A 318ti have minimum Euro1 emisson level, when it is a M44 engine then it hve Euro 2. You need minimum a engine in the same level.

So the best is a M50B25TÜ or a M52B25/ M52B28 for you.

The M20 enigne is cheap yes, but it is a 12valve with a belt for the valve, man forget this.

Hey Bilal :-)

I think one problem is, that no one in germany gets this engine legal in a E36.
So I think noboby tried to put a M20 in the Compact.

So there will be no one here who can giv you the information you need :(
