Thema: E36 OBC problem
----------------------------------------------------------
I have installed afterwards the big OBC to my -93 325 sedan and it doesn't work properly. The problem is that the average fuel consumption function is two times higher that it supposed to be. Every other functions work fine.

Every connections are made by the instructions from this forum. The serial number of the obc is 65.81 8 357 683 and it is originally from Alpina.

Is there anything that I can do to get it work properly, for example recode it?

I have tried to recode it by changing the values of the hidden test function number 11 , Einheits 1 and 2, but that didn't solve the problem.

Please help me...

If I am right you may have to recode it by an official alpine dealer.. You have to do this with an E39 Alpine OBC - not sure about E36..

If your OBC is correctly installed, your OBC simply has to be recoded by your local BMW-Dealer. There are different consumption diagrams for all different engines.
If the encoding is complete, your obc should show the correct fuel consumption and all other functions - such as "Check-Control" - should work proper.

It doesn't matter, whether your OBC is from Alpina or not, because the computer is basically identical with original BMW-Equipment.

greetings

In fact I have already asked my local BMW-dealer to recode it. They told my that only engine control unit and instrument cluster can be recoded, but not the obc.

Can you give me more specific information about recoding so that I can go back to the local dealer and tell them that recoding can be certainly done. Maybe then they will find out how to do it.

I am positive that all the necessary connections are mede correctly. Also Check Control -function works fine. The only problem is the avarage fuel consumption -function.

Hi.

Your local Dealer can recode your OBC with the so called "Modic/DIS" - testing unit. This equippment has every BMW-Dealer.
You basically let your car know, thats an OBC is installed and program the right car type into your obc.
You can do it as follow:

Let your dealer do this steps:

Plug in the Modic - Unit into your car's diagnostic socket.
Select your Car-Type from the Menu.
Then you can choose some sort of diagnostics and other things.
One Menu Item is the so called "Electronic Retrofit"
In this Menu you can choose all sort of Retrofitting electronics, such as OBC Unit (BC V), PDC, Power Windows, etc...)
The Recoding may take several Minutes.
You need to turn the ignition on and off (the testing unit will instruct you.)

Done.

Greetings

Thank you BMW 325i-Fahrer for these informations. They will be very useful for me.

One more question, what is the unit that has to be recoded in addition to obc itself to inform my car that there is an obc connected? More clearly, obc and some other unit have to be recoded, what is that other unit?

Basically all of your onboard units (I-Cluster, Central-Locking-Unit, ParkDistanceControl, OBC, etc.) have to be recoded if retrofitted.
There is an individual - for every car unique - signature, which is programmed in your Units, and your ZVM/ZKE unlocks special Features to check all other installed components, for example malfunktions ecetera)
My dealer told me this information.

Example:

Every Car is outfitted with an Instrument Cluster and an ZVM/ZKE - Module.
In this units there is the unique key, mentioned above.
So if you plan to retrofit another car unit, for example an OBC, you have to program this key into your retrofitted obc unit, so your OBC and your Instrument Cluster and ZVM can communicate correctly.

Greetings

Hi Guys,

I have the same problem, and I went to guy who has MODIC (v3) computer to recode the obc.
He cleared all error messages, and recoded the OBC, but nothing changed. The fuel consumption is still not valid.
Is there anybody who personally done this kind of action? Because I think this guy maybe skipped something.
Or is there any material somewhere in the INTERNET to learn how these stuffs working?

Many Thanks,
Zoltan
